Microdermabrasion is a quick, non-invasive procedure used to resurface the skin. This procedure gently removes only the layers of damaged skin by with tiny crystals. The technique exfoliates and gently resurfaces the skin, promoting the formation of new smoother, clearer skin. It is usually performed on the face and neck, but can be performed on any part of the body.
Duration of treatment: approximately 45 minutes.

What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion (often referred to as Microderm) is a cosmetic procedure popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and medical spas. This procedure is performed by passing a hand-held device that utilizes a controlled flow of fine, medical grade crystals over the skin. These crystals, delivered at a high velocity onto the skin surface are instantaneously vacuumed away, removing the top layer of dead skin with it. This process exfoliates the skin, improves tone and texture and reveals new, living skin cells that are smooth and soft. At the same time the underlying epidermis is stimulated and this promotes new collagen growth, thickening the dermis and improving the resistance to the effects of aging. Following microdermabrasion, the skin is in prime condition to absorb anti-aging and acne treatments & serums at home.
**Microdermabrasion should not be used on patients who have taken the medication Accutane (Isotretinion) in the previous six months or on skin that has an active outbreak of acne.

This quick, non-invasive procedure used to resurface top layers of damaged skin with tiny crystals. The technique exfoliates and gently reveals smoother, clearer skin. It is usually performed on the face and neck, but can be performed on any part of the body.
Results will be noticeable from the first treatment with a recommended follow-up treatment 10-14 days later; however some people will require an intensive treatment protocol of 5-8 treatments with one treatment every 10-14 days. After the initial treatment, maintenance visits are recommended every 2-3 months thereafter.

Does Microdermabrasion Hurt?
At The Emerald City Hair Studio, we use the ClearFX microdermabrasion machine. This machine is the top of the line in Microdernabrasion machines and is considered one of the most gentle. You can be assured that you will never feel any pain. Tony, our resident Esthetician (skin care specialst), will work up level by level as he goes to gradually increase penetration to the skin. Note, your skin may feel a little warm and appear a bit pinkish for the first treatment but will be perfectly fine that same day. A normal microdermabrasion treatment varies depending on your skin; the sensation of the procedure has been attributed to the sensation of a slight windburn.
Additional Information:
Microdermabrasion can reduce many of the scars left by Acne; it can clear out clogged pores and remove all the excess sebum (oil); in addition to invigorating the skin and making it far healthier looking. However it is very important that microdermabrasion is never used on skin that has an active outbreak of acne. A well trained professional may be able to work around your acne but you should NEVER use a home microdermabrasion kit while you have an outbreak. Sadly micro-dermabrasion can not remove deep scars but it can reduce them greatly so that they are no longer as visible as they once were.
